About this Class

Kismet's Level Four class takes your scene work skills and turns them into the basis of all long-form improv: The Harold! The Harold is a long-form improvisation style that originated at the Second City theater in Chicago. It is a structured form of improv that consists of three distinct parts, or "beats," that build on one another to create a cohesive show. The Harold is important for anyone who wants to be an improv comedian because it is a foundational form that teaches the skills and techniques necessary for all other long-form improv formats. It requires listening and reacting to your fellow performers, identifying game and playing collaboratively, and creating a cohesive show by pulling threads from the beginning all the way through to the explosive end. What are you waiting for? Sign up to learn at THE HAROLD at Kismet! Showcase: SATURDAY, Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. Prerequisites: improv training through Kismet Level Three (Longform Fundamentals). If you have not taken these classes but have relevant training or experience, please email hello@kismetimprov.com before registering. Instructor: Kate McGroarty Kate McGroarty is a writer, performer, and director who has enjoyed over a decade of involvement with the performing arts in Chicago, Boston, and Rhode Island. Currently, she performs on the Kismet Resident Ensemble (and Harold team), BALTIMORE PIZZA. Some of her favorite performances include sold-out runs with her Chicago-based sketch group Shanna’s Mom, music improv with groups Hidden Falls and One Night Only, and tenures on ImprovBoston’s Mainstage and National Touring Company. She is a graduate of the theater program at Northwestern University and the Music Improv Conservatory and Improv Conservatory programs at The Second City Training Center in Chicago.
