About this Class

Improv 501 takes your scene work skills and turns them into the basis of all long-form improv: The Harold! The Harold is a long-form improvisation style that originated at the Second City theater in Chicago. It is a structured form of improv that consists of three distinct parts, or "beats," that build on one another to create a cohesive scene. The Harold is important for anyone who wants to be an improv comedian because it is a foundational form that teaches the skills and techniques necessary for long-form improv. It requires listening and reacting to your fellow performers, building on their ideas, and creating a cohesive scene through spontaneous, unscripted dialogue. In short, the Harold is an essential building block for anyone interested in improv comedy. What are you waiting for? Join us for Improv 501 at Kismet! Showcase: SATURDAY, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. Prerequisites: improv training through Kismet Improv 401 If you have not taken these classes but have relevant training or experience, please email classes@kismetimprov.com before registering. Instructor: Randy Miller Instructor bio: Randy Miller is an established improviser, coach, and teacher who trained at the renowned Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) theater in NYC. As a member of their advanced Academy Program, Randy honed his skills under the guidance of amazing coaches and gained independent training with various indie improv teams in New York. Randy has been a house performer at Kismet Improv since 2022. You can catch Randy actively performing and coaching teams at Kismet's Friday Night House Party, where previously performed with the Marquee Freeform. Additionally, he is the producer of Kismet's storytelling show, The Cicada. Beyond Kismet, Randy shares his love for improv by teaching adults with developmental disabilities at The Outsider Collective in Pawtucket, RI, and at the MAB Training and Rehabilitation Center in Westborough, MA, where he works with adults who have developmental disabilities, strokes, or other TBIs. Randy’s teaching philosophy is about trust—trusting yourself as a performer, trusting your teammates, and embracing the unknown in life and improv.
